Hope it goes well for themjmayes wrote:From P1:"preparing to inject 7 bunches..., This fill for physics"

Anyone who doesn't take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted with large ones either by Albert Einstein.
Re: Current Events Discussion
looks like the action is heating up! its has been a long time but i guess all thier hard work paid off!

From the live schedule:
Fri 08:00 Prepare for 7 on 7 physics
Fri 16:00 Holland v Brazil
looks like they had a good few hours at 7 on 7 last night.

Re: Current Events Discussion
I dont think they got the luminosity they were after, but at least their humor is not dented.
Think they will have another shot at it this afternoon.

Back at it with 7x7 at 7e11, I wish them luck!

Good luck guys

Re: Current Events Discussion
The 4th attempt with 7x7 bunches is now underway
Re: Current Events Discussion
5th go now
Re: Current Events Discussion
We shall overcome!!!!!
Re: Current Events Discussion
In fact they did reach record luminosity 1.1E30 cm-2s-1 yesterday evening.
Still looking for a siustained run with stable beams though

Sure looks like they did it - 10 hours and countingStill looking for a sustained run with stable beams though
Re: Current Events Discussion
Yes, they had a couple of good runs and pushed the integrated luminosity past 70 inverse nano barns. earlier they had a luminosity of over 1e30 cm-2s-1 but they only held it for 16 minutes. They then reduced intensity a little and the later runs were around half that luminosity but lasted much longer.
According to the morning reports all the problems they had on each attempted run were different, so no single big issue is holding them back, just a run of bad luck.
Now they will test multi-bunch injection in between physics runs.
Special report today at http://indico.cern.ch/getFile.py/access ... fId=100171

Re: Current Events Discussion
They are going for a 10x10 bunch scheme as mentioned in the special report today.
This scheme will not have more collisions per turn that the 7x7 bunch scheme, but the beam-beam interactions are cleaner. So peak luminosity will not be improved but stability and lifetime might be.
