Actual progress of the LHC-physics-programm
Since I assume that most of gthe users here are not only interested in the tecnical operation of the LHC but also in resaults which may be useful for the advance of particlephysics. And since possible resaults are merly posted on the webpages of the 4 seperate experiments and I do not know any page where all recent results are shown collectively.
I thought it would be nice to have a Thread to collect all the physics news of all the experiments of the LHC anyone can find in one thread:
March 30 Atlas "First 7 TeV Proton-Proton Collision Events" http://atlas.web.cern.ch/Atlas/public/E ... vents.html
April 1 Atlas "W boson candidates in 7 TeV Collision Data" http://atlas.web.cern.ch/Atlas/public/E ... vents.html
April 21 LHCb "First reconstructed Beauty Particle" http://lhcb-public.web.cern.ch/lhcb-public/
May 7 LHCb "Strange Beauty and Charm" http://lhcb-public.web.cern.ch/lhcb-public/

Re: Actual progress of the LHC-physics-programm
The fact that a machines several meters in diameter are able to reconstruct particle trajectories with sub-millimeter precision fascinates me.
Re: Actual progress of the LHC-physics-programm
CERN has just launched an "LHC Physics Center" at http://lpcc.web.cern.ch/LPCC/events/. There is not much there yet, but we can hope for a lot of inside in the future.

I really like this thread Chriwi great idea

Re: Actual progress of the LHC-physics-programm
A good place to learn about the progress is the LHCC meetings from the 5th of May. Here is the agenda
http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=92525
and in video
http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1264592/ (part 1 and 2 are reversed apparently)
Conclusion is something like: ~1.1nb^-1 data and everything is working well. New physics over tevatron at maybe ~100-200 pb^-1, which corresponds to the end of 2010. (but if they are lucky some SUSY results at 10 pb^-1 already, which is only months away)
Cheers Anders

Re: Actual progress of the LHC-physics-programm
As my links in the first post already imply this thred is not only for really breaking new physics found but also for anounncments of rediscovery of particles known already from other experiments (colliders like Tevatron).
The only thing I would really like for this thread is that the single discoveries or rediscoveries are explicitly mentioned in the posts, so that it is possible to get an overview only by browsing the thread without following many links.

As I understand it, part of the proving of the LHC is the rediscovery of known particles. This is really exciting coz it proves that the new technology in the LHC is working accurately.

#LHCb has recorded already 126 million proton-proton collisions at LHCb

so we can assume that things are on track?

A US LHC Blog post about the rediscovery of known physics & what's ahead.

And I repost this topic here for continuity.
http://www.ichep2010.fr/
Staring July 22 through 28 Big deal get-together of HEP folk from around the world. Announcements of interim LHC results are expected.
It will apparently be Live webcast. http://webcast.in2p3.fr/2010/ichep/
I'm looking forward to it.

Re: Actual progress of the LHC-physics-programm
LHCb again rediscovered something already fund in 1977.
