Real time displays as experiments run and beams are active
Real time displays as experiments run and beams are active
I am a member of the physics forums: http://www.physicsforums.com (PF) and for the life of me awhile back I found a link to live LHC monitoring screens, I believe there were 6 to 12 can't quite remember.
In browsing you site I did notice you do have access to some live screen data and that it is restricted.
My question is this, do you have a link where the general public can watch and learn as the experiments run, and if screens are available, for you to provide me with one so I can share with the thousands of members on PF ?
Second, if a link is available, is this link: http://lhccwg.web.cern.ch/lhccwg/Biblio ... ronyms.htm used in understanding the acroynms used in displays ?
Thanks in advance....

hi rhody,
First, checkout this portal. It is a goldmine.
The 'Most Live Info' link, near the top of the portal left panel, is continually updated with LHC vistars.
Here is one main direct link:
http://op-webtools.web.cern.ch/op-webto ... p?usr=LHC1
Use the left top dropdown is access about 20 vistars.
If you don't have one, get a CERN external account.
Then you can login to operations logs:
https://ab-dep-op-elogbook.web.cern.ch/ ... ogbook.php?
This should bootstrap you.

Helpful discussion:
CERN LHC portal • View topic - What do the displays mean
Use chat for questions.

Thanks, could you provide me with that external link for a CERN external account.spencer wrote:hi rhody,

BTW I hope you guys have a lot of caffeine to keep you going, it is going to get CRAZY for you in a few days.
Good luck...

Re: Real time displays as experiments run and beams are active
are you looking for life info only about the beams or rather about the colissions?
The life infos about the beams are in the liks "page1" and "status op".
The only live info about collisins so far was the "event display" of the LHCb-detector, but this is not active anymore since they started this year. I am also not sure if they will reactivate this live display before they publicly anounced the first collisions at 7TeV because there was a news that they don't like to leak any pre events anymore before the official anouncment. That seems to be their plan, but I am not sure if it will stay that way, the first collisions in december were also a surprise to the public without any official announcment.

Thanks, if you have any other links that you think would be of interest (or posting suggestions) I will post/consider them.
Here is my post on physics forums to date: http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=387972
Have a look if you like.
There are hundreds of folks who frequent the high energy, nuclear, particle physics section daily.

HEY rhody !!!
Sorry I did not catch this thread on MY OWN FORUM sooner !..
I had to correct this thread the same way I suggested over at the other forum..

Re: Real time displays as experiments run and beams are active
I not exactly understand the last 2 posts.
I only can see that the link to physicsforum (which might help) to understand is not valid anymore or not open to the public.

Re: Real time displays as experiments run and beams are active
Ok... Well...
A link was posted in this thread that CERN would prefer us to not post...
Without knowing that rhody posted it on the PH forum.
The PH forum kinda went crazy and deleted the WHOLE THREAD.. Which was wrong..
The link in question is not a big deal. You really dont get anything more then a log book, no live data, But if it keeps getting posted then CERN will have to close off a lot of access. None of us what that, so we dont post it..
There is nothing other then a log book which is text and simply has entires on what they did technically which the link can access.. I personally pretty much never use it. The important info from the log is on the comments section of page 1.
So... Thats the deal....

A old forum thread I started over at PF... I think they are still mad about it..
