Accelerator driven nuclear reactors are inherently safe because they depend on an ion beam to create enough neutrons to sustain the nuclear reaction.
Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors (LFTRs) are also interesting as they generate only a fraction of the long lived nuclear waste of a conventional once-through lightwater reactor. A detailed explanation of why this is can be seen here
