The psychology behind it is similar to why organisations build temples/mosques/football stadiums/…/cathedrals. Economic growth. Is it really worth spending 10bn€ to confirm that the universally recognised as incomplete Standard Model does still work at 100Tev ?
Sure some new physic might appear at those energy level but do we have, at the very least, some hint of it ?
