LHC should restart beams around beginning of next february after the xmas break.

This is a very recent schedule change. There is to much things to do during this small shutdown that it has been extended.

So maybe there is an opportunity to go down, but I guess under very specific reasons.

Of course there is the tale of one unlucky? experimental particle physicist in Russia, Anatoli Bugorski.

Wow!! These are incredible pictures, I think they deserve a link on the home page?

Well yea,,, hey are might cool...

Im trying to keep the portal links only for CERN links.

However... I will go start a thread that is a sticky that will always be at the top called cool links and we can add cool links to that ?

I suppose I could then create a link from the portal to a cool links page and put the links we gather on it ?

getting back to the sounds for a minute...

While the main frequency is 11khz, there must actually be harmonics and a full spectrum of noise not just a fundamental 11khz.

Putting a surround sound miking arrangement at points around the ring and recording at high speeds then slowing it down and dropping the frequency would make it audible and in surround.

:)

The LHC could indeed be recorded in surround..

Assuming the 11Khz sound is present enough to be picked up..
