Accelerator driven nuclear reactors - Thorium energy

Post by JGLambourne » Sat Apr 04, 2015 4:19 pm

Is anyone interested in accelerator driven nuclear reactors? If so you might be interested in watching the talks from the Thorium Energy Conference 2013 (ThEC13) which was held at CERN.

You can watch most of the talks in CDS via this link

Accelerator driven nuclear reactors are inherently safe because they depend on an ion beam to create enough neutrons to sustain the nuclear reaction.

Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors (LFTRs) are also interesting as they generate only a fraction of the long lived nuclear waste of a conventional once-through lightwater reactor. A detailed explanation of why this is can be seen here
