planets rotation

Post by drippingwet rat » Tue Dec 08, 2009 9:15 am

so if the planets rotation is on an axes ,if cern has an oopsi and throws off the natural rotation of the earth which gives us gravity .so would we just float or take off like a rocket once we went outside .that if you could make it outside taking that we are not stuck to are ceilings .just a thought .

Thats a pretty wild theory you have there...

Your suggesting that some unforseen event at the LHC could disrupt gravity. Interesting and unique idea.

Pretty far fetched im afraid. In fact there is really no chance of any bad event at all coming from the LHC...

However...

its a good movie plot..

Hello drippingwet rat,

according to the well accepted theories about gavitation and centrifugal force the rotatin of the earth is not the cause of or gravitation. More the rotatin of the earth causes a slightly lower gravitatin at the equator and leaves full gravitatin at the poles. Also from this (since our weight is not much less at the equator than close to the poles) you can see that the influence of the rotation on the gravitation is rather small.
Besides that there is no known or even only postulated effact which the LHC could have on the rotation of the earth. Even the postulated possibility that the strong magnets of the LHC might cause a magnetic poleshift oft the erths magnetic field would definitely have no influence on the rotation of the earth.
Other effects of the LHC on the rotation or the gravity of the earth are not known or even postulated.
bye

Wow Chriwi, you left all sorts of interesting things open there....

Even more movie plot material !

Your post actually reminded me all of the hysteria about an apocalypse in the year not to be named. I can't even think about a possible scenario in which the LHC will go insane and eliminate the gravity of the sun towards the earth.

More like pretty much any year that you care to name  The end of the world has been predicted so many times its getting pretty tedious.

I don't really see the point, I mean it's not like your going to get any satisfaction from being right is it ?
