Re: NEW RECORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 48 bunch run broke the world record for stored energy in an accelerator
Well done guys

Re: NEW RECORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(The energy was 3.2 MJ in that 48 bunch run, by the way. A car of 1000 kg doing 120 kph on the highway is about .5 MJ, for comparison.)
Strange coincidence that right after this run was dumped (16:21 on friday), within the hour, cryo failed, cryo tripped while trying to fill again, then there was a power glitch during the ramp, which means that we have to wait for more than two days before we can run again. It is now Sunday 17:26...
Of course, this just shows how complicated everything is, and proves that it really is an achievement!

Re: NEW RECORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The good news is, that right after I posted that, the same night they broke the records again:
5.2 MJ in the machine (new world record), luminosity 9 Hertz per microbarn (new LHC record).
I pays off not to give up.

Re: NEW RECORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the good news keeps on coming. Recent fills have produced initial instantaneous luminosity of 30 inverse micro-barns per second.
The challenge is to quickly increase that to 150 (ub.s)-1 500% greater in order to meet projected 1 femtobarn (1000 picobarn = 1,000,000 nanobarn) goals by the end of 2011 run.

Atlantis display wake-up !!
Nice work and fantastic firework
we could expect nice data for physic discovery
what about a wake up for Atlantis live display ??

If you see it's not updating during a run with stable beams, just send me a message. Address is in the source of the page.7holography wrote:what about a wake up for Atlantis live display ??
