I understand it less than I understand particle physics.

Anyone who doesn't take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted with large ones either by Albert Einstein.

Re: 2010 Startup
Magnet temps are improving; that is, going down.
See: LHC/Field/ Then click "Display Cryo Athorization" button to turn it into "Display Field Overview" and we have some yellow and only a few red.

Actually that's getting worse not better. It was all green a few days ago.LarryS wrote:Magnet temps are improving; that is, going down.

Re: 2010 Startup
A few days ago it went 1/3 red; the fact that some of the red has gone to yellow is an improvement from yesterday and the day before.
In the world of particle physics 3 days ago can become very ancient history.

Re: 2010 Startup
I understand that the 20th we are going to start up ?
Re: 2010 Startup
Im completely out of touch with what is going on...
I have sent out emails to people who would know schedules and I will hear back shortly tho..

The latest news published here in the forum is still this
There the last paragraph says:
But today sector 81 is not cold (all read for more than 5 hours now).
There the last paragraph says:
But theyalso mention injection starting arround Feb 17th and Beams expected from Feb 22nd.CMS collaboration members were asked for their best estimates of when first collisions would occur, with results plotted here. Lots of optimists voted for around March 1, the date that got the most votes was April 1.
But today sector 81 is not cold (all read for more than 5 hours now).

Re: 2010 Startup
Dry runs starting soon.
First beams will be on Thursday next week, the 24th. Thats the current plan... Might slip some.
Low intensity & 450Gev
Slow increase in intensity with a brief period for the experiments to get collisions at 900GeV ( 450+450 )
Then they will slowly ramp to 3.5TeV over a planned 2 weeks but might take 4 weeks to get to 7TeV collisions.
Then after that slow increases in luminosity throughout 2010.
Thats the current plan. That from 2 authoritative sources.
Soooooooo... T-Minus 1 week and counting.

Re: 2010 Startup
Am curious to know what they are doing to sector 81 today. Obviously it takes long.
