Meanwhile back at the CCC the cryo board is all green for the first time since the break.

It looks like they've got a beam circulating now (beam 1).

(Or maybe they're just simulating a beam to check the software?)

You're right, according to the displays they briefly circulated beam 1. Would need to check the logs to find out what is happening though.

Looking at the LHC logs, they are doing injection 'dry runs' so I guess they are testing the injection process without actually having a beam present.

It would be just like them to start up early

Well if you look at LHC_Operations it shows multiple short bursts of 1.4 TeV and less for today afternoon.

I can believe in a dry run on page 1 (there are greens now suggesting there could be a beam and/or a beam setup underway) but faking detector data just for the sake of a dry run seems hard to believe.

BTW - congrats to the happy parents of Clelia!

Well Page 1 currently shows presence for beam 1 but on the other had the global beam permit is false which implies there should be no beam in the machine.

Yup, but that's Page 1 and as I wrote, I could believe in a dry run that would make Page 1 look like that.

I was referring to LHC_operations (Status Op from the portal selection bar).

Note the Op Vistars/Status Op graph has 2 separate scales; one on the right measuring "Energy(Tev)" and one on the left measuring "Intensity."

From what I remember seeing in the last set of runs before shut-down, the Gray line went with the right scale and the red&blue lines went with the left scale.

I have never seen a complete definition of these scales so my view could we wrong.

I do think that beam has been present as page 1 permits change when the blue line drops.

What LarryS said. The grey line is energy which is directly related to magnet current. they have been testing the nQps by ramping magnet current and taking measurements so the grey line should show ramps but doesn't. ??
Meanwhile back at the CCC, " 1:19 Cryo start and cryo maintain removed by cryo in S23 for preparation of cryo interventions on Tuesday". So sector 23 is showing all red right now.

I was referring to the blue one, and if that indeed goes with the left hand scale this counts as an epic fail on my part (I was assuming it's on the right hand scale).

I stand (sit, actually) corrected.

Back to trying to make sense of some of the displays...

Argh! (just had another look at it)

And it even says so on the legend of the display ... blue and red go on the left as they are intensity, grey = energy = scale on the right...

Me stupid. Me should be watching the Teletubbies or something equally simple...

Teletubbies simple ? Are you kidding me ? If it's simple *please* explain to me what the heck is going on ?

I understand it less than I understand particle physics.
