What is the purpose of this ? Is it in use ? When will it start to be used ?
I have read the web page on it, and the wiki, but those are quite old. I am wondering what the current plans are, what type of things would a users computer be used for ? Does you computer become part of the GRID ?
LHC@Home
Re: LHC@Home
From what I remember, it was used pre-LHC startup (the first one, that is ) to figure out stable beam paths or similar - so that they can calibrate the beams without mashing up their machinery the second they turn it on. Or something.
But even back in early 2008 it was very quiet - I don't think they use it as part of their Grid (why not, I'm not sure!)

Re: LHC@Home
LHC@Home is a distributed computing project that uses BOINC open-source software for volunteer computing and grid computing.system
Hopefully CERN will port some workunits to the BOINC community when the LHC comes up to speed.
