Hello,

I was following the cooldown and powerup of the LHC for about 2 month on the official webpages of the hardware-commissioning. When there were no changes anymore I was loking for newinformation sources and found this portal & forum besides the official page of the beam-comminssioning and made it to one of my favourite places to visit vereyday.
I am an engeneer of applied physics in Germany, but work only in softwaredevelopment of the automotive industry for more then ten yeras now.
I visited the tunnle of CERN bevore the LEP was taken aut and the construction of the LHC started some time in 1997 together with a group from my college.
I am interested in physics and cosmology, but also in conspiracy, but I don't give anything for that black hole stuff discussed for this experiment, evenso I not really regard it for impossible.
Besides that I playmuch with PCs, linux and embedded-devices which also run linux like NASes, DSL-routers and sat-recievers. I also run a forum about linux-sat-recievers myselfe since about 1,5 years now.

lets see what we will get here.

Hi,
I am interested by all the technical aspects of this project. I don't give a dam about the big bang or the aliens, but would like to know for example how they synchronize the beams, do the transverse/longitudinal cooling, etc.

Long live the LHCPORTAL

Hmmm.......

What you want is someplace in the EDMS server...

You will need a Cern External Account. See the link for external accounts and then check the EDMS for what you want..

Also if you use site:cern.ch in google and then your search you can find amazing things.

Also, "LHC ..." and "CERN ..." give good results in google - and can sometimes give an idea of how the LHC fits into the scientific community.

But yes, EDMS should keep you busy!
