Me.......

Post by leohopkins » Mon Nov 23, 2009 1:36 pm

Hi guys,

My name is Leo, im 30 and live in England.
Im currently studying engineering with the Open University.

Im certainly glad that I found this site; the information it gives is interesting; albeit confusing for a non-physicist like me. Im sure ill learn more as I go along.

I have a hyperthetical question. the beam dump block is a block of graphite.
If I were to use my head (for instance) in lieu of the beam dump block; would I feel anything? Would it kill me?

Regards;
Leo

Welcome leohopkins,

I have heard that the Beam circulating at maximum Power contains the energy of a highspeed train like the Eurostar running at maximum speed.
I am not sure if it would burn your head right away or if the protons would only smash the DNS of your Cells, what would also kill you within hours or days.

Even if you come only close to the circulating beam there ist the so called sycotron radiation which is at least highly cancerous (like very strong X-rays). So to acces any of the equipment close to the beam the the beam have to be dumped before access can be granted.
