Re: Where does the energy go?
Wait and all will be revealed ... Scientific American, July 2010, "Is the Universe Leaking Energy", by Tamara M. Davis She presents a very different interpretation of "Where did the energy go from the red shift?" And if I might quote the last paragraph of her article (and I hope it peaks your curios...

Re: Current Events Discussion
According to the LHC OP Log the "FBCT got stuck"; that is, the Fast Beam Current Monitor stopped sending data and needed to be rebooted.

Re: When is your Birthday?
Sept 18, 1941 and will update my avitar picture once I get a good one at the next Ren Faire (shades of D.C.). I do enjoy when alternate theories are presented; remember when I got my physics degree it was 1964 and quarks were not yet discovered. When they were first postulated they were defined as: ...

Re: Current Events Discussion
Notice the second bucket in each beam does not line up (8941 vrs 8911); this will affect luminosity.

Re: Current Events Discussion
It is 24-04-2010 at 00:55 and they are beginning a Physics ramp BUT this time with 3 bunches in each beam.
This should improve the collision rate (luminosity) as they now have more protons.

Re: Mental illness
Tevatron vs. LHC The news from Fermilab is that the Tevatron has set a new luminosity record, with a store last Friday that had an initial luminosity of 4.04 x 1032cm-2s-1, or, equivalently, 404 inverse microbarns/sec. For more about this, see a new posting from Tommaso Dorigo, where someone from Fe...

Thanks, I suspected it was a longitudinal parameter in meters.
