Re: Creating "Sparks"
I'm not sure how important this is for the discussion (and sorry if I sidetrack) but I'd like to make a few observations: 1. Can you define "impact"? In what sense would a 20 megaton explosion on Earth be different from the same bomb (20 mT) exploding on the moon? If you mean blast, remember that bl...

Yup, that's how far I got with Babel Fish as well.
(It's interesting by the way, how 3 different translation engines "translate" it the same way. You'd almost think...)

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
How about a forum rule where we stick to languages that we all can understand (e.g., English) when posting on the forum?
I thought we were trying to communicate here?
(Obviously would not apply to pms)

Oh and I've also read that they made a mistake in interpreting the Maya calendar, and that the end of the Maya era is now set for 2020 or somewhere.
No need to trust the predictions by people who can't even calculate the outcome of 1+1 without making a simple error on the way.

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
their explaination is that the cosmic particles are very fast and the moon and the earth are rather at rest, so if black holes are created they have a momentum, will disappear in space and starve. Since the LHC produces headoncollisions of protons with aproximately the same speed the momentum of th...

Re: CERN Cows and strong magnets
Sheep tend to stand with their rears in the wind as well. When I was a student I lived for several years in a place with lots of sheep around, so I had ample chance to observe their behavior. Anyway... 1. The study penguin42 refers to mentions cows standing predominantly in the North-South direction...

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
The only way I believe theories that I do not direct understand is if there is a significant consensus among people who *understand* the science behind it - in detail. Aye. As I wrote before - show me the experimental proof and the peer reviews and we might be able to discuss stuff. Without it, no ...

Re: Can black holes grow?
Nah, if he'd be off to the experimental department there would be reason to worry about black holes (and who knows what else!). No chance there'd be a black hole in the theory dept... except of course for theoretical black holes, but those aren't too dangerous as long as you don't approach them theo...

Speaking of El Reg... did you know that the circumference of the LHC ring is about 613.37 Brontosauruses?
