Hi there,
I don't think this link has been posted yet, so I give it here: http://cms-service-lumi.web.cern.ch/cms ... erview.php
There's a similar one for ATLAS, if you want I'll post it as well...
Enjoy!

Re: Current Events Discussion
Does anybody know why they witness such a drop in instantaneous luminosity (50% in a few hours), where the beam intensity stays nearly constant?

Nearly every day, just have a look at the "coordination" page on the vistars...tomey36 wrote:does any one know when live collisions will be veiwable again?
By the way, new record today, they've just broken the 3e30 barrier!

High intensity stable beams in progress!!!!
I see a 2.5e29 /cm²/s right now!
The LHC team has really done a great work in order to establish high intensity stable beams so fast!
I hope they'll be able to increase the number of bunches just as fast!

Re: Can any of you give me some idea's on books?
Thanks for you info, I would just like to say that i would never dream of saying i understand something and i would never say i was anything like a Scientist or a physicist because it's something i will never now or ever be.....popular science is a great thing to want to learn about, i have only be...

Re: Can any of you give me some idea's on books?
Hm what do you want exactly? Are you looking for "popular science" books or rather something formal? In the one case I can't recommend enough the "Nature of Physics" by Feynman, "The Elegant Universe" by Greene, "A Brief History of Time" and "The Universe in a Nutshell" by Hawking, "The Cosmic Lands...

Re: Current Events Discussion
What's the unit of the integrated lumi? (pb)^-1? Haha slide 2 made me laugh... "It's a lot easier to inject a lot of high intensity bunches into an equation than into a particle accelerator" :D I have a question... When they say "separation on", they do actually mean the beams don't collide don't th...

Re: Current Events Discussion
So they even have plan changes planned? :D If you have a change of plan planned is it still a change of plan ? I'd say yes, as you don't know yet what you're gonna change ^^ (In a railway station not far from here, they have a special board with the planned delays of train departures ^^ Don...

Very nice, thanks!
I like the plot on the 7th slide from the ATLAS status report: male/female age distribution of the collaboration ^^

Re: A Journey into a black hole
Nice!
The narrator also made a very beautiful vid about the hubble ultra deep field...
By the way I found this some years ago: http://casa.colorado.edu/~ajsh/schww.html
It's a bit old but well explained

Hmm maybe that's why we don't hear from our friend ivan anymore ^^
He's there, in Switzerland, trying to slow down the LHC operations!

I'm out XD

Re: Let's go hump hunting!
Well the fact is the LHC is roughly 100m under the ground... You'd need a hell of a big TV to be able to cause any disturbance...
Plus, the frequency of the hump varies, which would not be if it came simply from some regular apparatus above the ground.
