Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

@ mexaly the OP-Vistar LHCCONFIG http://op-webtools.web.cern.ch/op-webtools/Vistar/vistars.php?usr=LHCCONFIG will have the beam bunch info I believe once things settle down and commissioning is over in a week or so. Old mel has it on the lower right corner of the LHC lite display. http://meltronx.co...

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Knowing how CERN likes pleasant surprises and the way the dates line up I wouldn't put it past them to try a few collisions on Fri 25 Mar. But who knows? Tuesday 30 th would be fine if they actually meet the timeline. Uh Oh from the schedule it looks no beam till Friday " No beam from Thursday 04:00...

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

The reporting via LHCPortal and MELTRONX are both frozen at the exact same times. Viewing the LHC OP logs shows this is the exact point when the "ramp-up" reached 1.18 TeV. This was followed by some cryo problems and some "trips" during the following "ramp-down." From what I can interpret it is a s...

http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/8582/timetable.th.jpg On the 19th, can anyone tell me (or point me to in case i missed this) what "SF" means? I'm guessing but what I found was this; "RESQP execution steps (SF: Safe failures, DF: Dangerous failures, MF: Main failures)." from document ( https://lh...

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Darn Vistars are stuck. 21:42:09.

Reset the Display Crate!

Seems like a lot of rebooting crate going on. A lot of crates I suppose. Any one know about how the multi processor network is managed? Heartbeat?

Re: Exotic Antimatter Detected at RHIC

Excellent news which hopefully the LHC will confirm later in the year (nov 2010) http://lhc-commissioning.web.cern.ch/lh ... e_v1.4.pdf when they collide lead ions.

A few Grid links

So what happens to the data generated at the LHC? It get sent to other centers for processing. First it starts at CERN tier zero https://cmsweb.cern.ch/T0Mon/ Then to regional Centres like this one in Germany http://www.gridka.de/monitoring/main.html Or Spain http://www.hep.uniovi.es/ganglia/ who pr...

Hi Serych, Perhaps this document will usefull http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1129806/files/jinst8_08_s08001.pdf It's a 7.5 MB .pdf overview of the LHC machine. There are others for each experiment; Atlas http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1129811/files/jinst8_08_s08003.pdf 36MB Alice http://cdsweb.cern.ch/r...

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

More frustration with nQps. There is an enormous quantity of equipment that must all work correctly at the same time. If one considers the number of connection points and active components and power supplies in the nQps alone that have to work reliably it boggles the mind that it can work at all. I ...

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

Other than pesky PC and Cryo drop outs it looks like is going good. Filling Scheme alternate injection R1 R2 pilot from LHC_Config. So I think very soon 1st beams of 2010.

Re: What do the displays mean ?

The busy Gnomes at CERN have added yet another op-Vistar screen LHC_Exp_Magnets.
http://op-webtools.web.cern.ch/op-webto ... =LHCEXPMAG
Info on 6 magnets their State, Current, And polarity. Also 4 graphs showing the ramping.

Re: What do the displays mean ?

And I see you added the LHC CONFIG vistar to the Portal. Most of the items are fairly evident from their labels. I found this on Ghost Bunch warning; " The BPIM also records the bunch structure for both beams and how many bunches which collide in LHCb. It is also able to detect bunches which are not...

Re: 2010 Startup

What LarryS said. The grey line is energy which is directly related to magnet current. they have been testing the nQps by ramping magnet current and taking measurements so the grey line should show ramps but doesn't. ?? Meanwhile back at the CCC, " 1:19 Cryo start and cryo maintain removed by cryo i...
