My point exactly.
I don't see Ivan returning.

Hi CharmQuark;
Maybe he discovered the error of his ways.
So now he is ashamed to post back.

Hi CharmQuark;
Maybe the guys in the white jackets caught him and he is not allowed access to the internet in his new padded cell.

Thanks for posting those lectures. I found out more from them then just about anywhere else.Harbles wrote:This is how the LHC works, in two recent lectures

Yes, DCWitworth, I thought the same thing. I seem to remember hearing someone say that the strings are so small that is beyond human capability to make anything that prove superstring theory.DCWhitworth wrote:I thought one of the controversies/problems about string theory is that it is unprovable ?

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
Hi Stephen;
I have my doubts about that. I think you give Ivan way more credit then he deserves. IMHO he is nothing but a fear monger looking for someone to frighten.

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
Going back to my earlier post about RICH detectors, I was checking out the status of LHCb some more and I discovered that during those runs with the strange tracks, they were locked. In addition to the RICH detectors, there were a number of other detectors locked out. I failed to make a note as to e...

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
RATS! I like my idea of brownies better!
Seriously thanks for the explanation.
I sort guessed as much but found the use of the term 'recipe' for that a bit odd. Maybe it is one of those translation funnies that happen.

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
Hi
A quotation from LHCb log; "HCAL is back with new timing recipe."
Anyone have any ideas what this means?
Are they about to make brownies or something with a new recipe?

Hi Here is quotation from the documentation on the RICH detectors; "The two RICH detectors are responisible for identifying a range of different particles that result from the decay of B mesons, including pions, kaons and protons." Without have this basic information about a collision, the software ...

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
Hi. Has anyone else noticed that RICH1 and RICH2 are not reporting any hits as they were earlier?
I wonder if the lack of information these detectors could be partial to blame for strange results.
