Re: Creating "Sparks"
Chelle I thougth wanted to make another point here and I try to only explain the very high improbability of such a chainreaction, I am not talking about the holes stuff here. You are probably right about a chain-reaction it 's just a crazy idea and i don't think I can put in any more arguments with...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
most of the energy to produce the top quarks was not from the restmass of the proton and the antiproton but from the much higher motion energy of the 2 particles That's why I said: what happens at higher speeds/energy we don't know, that's why we test." That is about the same as the idea that the f...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
Chelle forgets to take in account 2 things: 1. whatever we do to a proton the energy coming out of the proton should not be more than rest-mass of the proton times c squared plus the energy we put in since tevatron already collided protons and antiprotons there at least the energy of the rest-mass ...

I don't mind, you haven't brought any value to the discussion despite your claim of "having a huge understanding of the universe". If you could answer my other questions with facts, than you are more than welcome.ORION111 wrote:Having said that, I will not be arguing with you at all.

Re: Creating "Sparks"
It this your personal conclusion after reading the LSAG-Report, or do you have some sort of a gut feeling, on what is your result based? ... It's the physics itself that ensures us the safety at this energy regime, all that knowledge of cosmos we have gathered, tells us. Tells us what? Can you expl...

Anyhow I think the LHC might be a similar act of stupidity

Re: Creating "Sparks"
btw have you seen this story last year, is it funny or tragic? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1216735/Two-bank-robbers-killed-explosives-trying-blow-safe.html Isn't this 'instant' self karma? LOL Very funny, but since human lives are lost and to stupidity, it is tragic. Those gen...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
Call me old fashioned, but I prefer happy endings. You know, where the heroes manage to save the world and then get hit by a car the next day. ... and dies and goes to heaven. Just to be clear, are you really worried about the LHC creating a chain reaction of some sort, or do you just enjoy explori...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
What will be the results of such a chain reaction? Hi Stephen, just to tickle your imagination; I find that the movie "SuperNova" with Angela Bassett had a pretty cool intergalactic-chain-reaction as (alternative) ending, Science Fiction at it's best! Check it out, I hope it doesn't make you nervou...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
So you think the collision of the LHC will trigger some kind of a chemical reaction? What will be the results of such a chain reaction? I 'm just like everybody else, I don't know what the mechanisms of a proton are, and what makes Quarks interact the way they do. I even don't have the skills to lo...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
Even if it's true, the LHC doesn't make collisions at 10^20. The scheme of things: Cosmic rays: 10^7 eV to 10^10 eV Man-made (LHC): 10^12 to 10^13 eV OMG Cosmic rays: 3 x 10^20 eV And like I pointed out before; that the extra energy for the Ultra ray's might be energy that comes from within and isn...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
But wouldn't we have seen this new chemical reaction in cosmic rays? There could possibly be new surprises (like the fireball created at RHIC), but a chain reaction which is capable of ruining a whole planet would have probably been visible. That reaction might be what I referred to the difference ...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
Why do you think energy released from protons would cause a chain reaction? Nature has proven us over and over again that cumulations of energy have a significant force, and once the energy composition is broken that there is an outbreak, a chain reaction or a simple vaporization releasing the ener...

Re: Creating "Sparks"
You're probably right but is there a relation between the gravity of the earth and it's rotation? As far as I'm aware there is no causal relation between the rotation of the Earth and gravity. You do need to take rotation into account when launching things from the Earths surface, but I can't see h...
