The Saturday collision has been retimed to 1700. All other details hold.

Re: Daily Schedules and Hiccups

Discussion topic for this quench: http://lhcportal.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&p=626 I'd like to keep this topic clean(ish) for the schedules and announcing problems - and keep discussion in specific topics (which helps people find all the info for either schedules or a specific problem in one place...

Re: Quench 1pm 4 Dec 2009

The Quenchino seems to have been Beam Induced - they've been playing around with the beam all morning to test the beam cleaning systems. Apparently they'd already lost parts of the beam due to hitting things already, and they finally managed to break something!

No major damage reported anywhere.

Re: Quench 1pm 4 Dec 2009

They've only been down 3 hours, so I'd agree it's rather minor. Better safe than sorry though!

Re: Quench 1pm 4 Dec 2009

Progress page says:

07:30-12:00: Aperture studies continued. Stopped by beam-induced quench.

So possibly managed to smash a beam into something they shouldn't?

Re: Daily Schedules and Hiccups

Friday Schedule (is probably out the window...) -- Comments: DC Whitworth managed to pick up on a quench in sector 23 not too long ago (1223 is the earliest mention of this). I've not been able to find much info, but the LHCb's logbook mentions electrical problems being looked into - I can't tell if...

Progress Page

Recently, the guys at the LHC have revamped this page. It is now a nicely set out page, and they seem to be writing up the progress of events as they happen now. Also, they put up a PowerPoint display daily from what I assume is a meeting they have every morning (note it is Office 2007 format - howe...

Re: LHC@Home

From what I remember, it was used pre-LHC startup (the first one, that is ;)) to figure out stable beam paths or similar - so that they can calibrate the beams without mashing up their machinery the second they turn it on. Or something. But even back in early 2008 it was very quiet - I don't think t...

Thurs Night/Friday Morning: -- Comments: LBDS TSU - LHC Beam Dump System, Trigger Synchronisation Unit (mouthful or what?!). I think that this is a system that ensures the Beams are dumped together, or that the dumping system activates at the correct time. MPS - Machine protection system - a systems...

Re: Daily Schedules and Hiccups

GREAT idea... I have turned this into a global thread... It will stay in the announcements. We will need to take the thread and store it away by date week by week and start a new one. Otherwise it will be come huge.. Great idea ! Thanks :) Thursday: -- Comments: More hardware testing, beam tuning, ...

Wednesday/Thursday: -- Comments: Beam is not yet back as of 2200 CERN time, but they're getting there. Collimator testing is almost done, and there's talk of higher intensities (NOT Power!). More hardware/beam testing/tuning planned in the morning. -- Evening: now 1h access to UA (svc area at pt6) t...
