Re: Don’t talk to aliens, warns Stephen Hawking
So you need "Polaritons" in a 2D confined system (neither available nor practical within the LHC) or you need to pump a very specific metal film using microwaves.
So that paper is irrelevant to your arguments.

Blackcurrent tea, (up to) two sugars.
Ordinary tea is just (IMO)

Re: Question about LHC Home site, BOINC download link broken
I know this may sound obvious and/or patronising, but were you able to leave your PC idle for half an hour before you installed the LHC@Home software? Even if you were it might just be worth checking your power options anyway :) On Windows 7, type Power Options into the start menu search box, or rig...

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
At the final part of the dangerous object’s growth a huge amount of neutrino will penetrate everybody of us. The flux will be so big, that it will lead to some nuclear reactions in our cells. If the total time of dangerous object is big (about 1000 seconds) then we all can be able to feel what radi...

Re: Mental illness
Now where do the phonons go during collisions, remember BEC isn't created in an instant it takes time and a lot of phonons & photons, so the higher the frequency the more is pumped into the environment. You have no lattice in which the phonons can exist. So they don't "go" anywhere. You don't have ...

No, it's because your reasoning has no scientific basis. Nothing to do with it being "fancy" or not.Chelle wrote:… it doesn't seem to come to mind that I'm using just some plain common sense, why is it because its not fancy enough?

Re: unpronouncable volcano
Yep. I feel obliged to point out that military design jet engines are more susceptible than the sort used in commercial jets due to lack of bypass ducts. Still not a pretty way for the engine to end up, and it won't take many journeys to take even a commercial engine out of commission that way. And ...

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
OK, so entropy can be negative for short periods. Nothing new. Note that *in that article* it points out that that gave energy transfer to the beam, *making the beam hotter* The energy -> temperature link is the same, merely that the direction can be the wrong way round for short periods. You're sti...

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
...Where adding energy from the one direction, will cause it to slow (cool) down and adding energy from the opposite site can cause the proton to speed up. Utter nonsense. Adding energy to a particle does not and can not cool it down. Adding energy to it will increase it's temperature, i.e it heats...
