Re: 5 sigma Higgs !!!

Higgs is a name and thereby spelled capital, bosun is already a thing and thereby spelled with a small "b". I only hope that Higgs ever gets the same credit like Bose that the will call this particle just a higgs with small "h" insted of Higgs boson, I guess thats still a long way to go, but I insis...

Re: Hello you lot!

Hi charmed,

am happy for you .

Am also still here and check the forum between once in 3 days and 3 times in one day.

Lets see what the future brings, especially the long shutdown, maybe its even more exiting after the upgrade.

Re: 5 sigma Higgs !!!

If you accept the challenge and dont like to be unreasonable so please consider to comment on my considerations of English grammer and spelling rules, what in my eyes prove that it is an honor for Bose to spell boson without a capital B instead of beliving its not giving the necessary respect to tha...

Re: Active Hypercycle acronym angst - 10 Aps ?

sorry for making a wild guess: maybe it just means Amperes per second and could mean the slope of the ramp, by how many amperes the current in the magnets is increased every second. http://www-td.fnal.gov/LHC/Uslhc_accel_docs/MQXB/Report/Chpt7.pdf I found something called ramp rate and they mention ...

Re: 5 sigma Higgs !!!

I think you are overdoing here with your blame. The work of Mr Bose is already honored enough by calling a whole group of particles boson-particles or bosons. In my opinoin Bose has nothing to do with the later postulation an discovery of the Higgs-particle what happens to be a member of the group b...

Are theese really tecnical resons or maybe rather financial reasons , that some contributors of money like to delay the payments because of the euro-crisis?

Re: 90m physics?

I think I undetrstand that as I guessed the distance in meters is only a hypothetical value, especially then when the beam is never focused down smaller than to half of its unfocused diameter (maybe similar to a virtual picture of a point in photon optic with mirrors(evenso the lightbeams never reac...

90m physics?

My question is: do the 2 beams really stay together for 90m (since beta means the distance in wich the crossection of both beams will be twice as much as at the collissionpoint)? Or is it rather a theoretical value extrapolating the collissionangle at thec collissionpoint and asuming the beams and t...

Interesting qustion, is only the mass of the fundmental particles related to the higgs mechanism or also the mass they aquier by their bindingenergy?

Re: 5 sigma Higgs !!!

Even if they found the sm Higgs, then the standard model is not more than Newtons physics was about 150 years ago, they thought they knew everything and see how much more they found until now and Newtons physics is still not wrong and also not useless for most everyday use. I guess SM will be the sa...

Re: it's not what gives YOU the mass

I dont know who said this, but who claims that he or she is not made up of "fundamental particles" and also got his mass from their mass, should better present a new "theory of everything", according to the "standard modle" which is now more affirmed then ever also you and me should be made of such ...

Re: so what's next?

The Higgsboson is called godparticle for no other reason because its the last missing part of the standardmodel, confirming it means that the standardmodle is confirmed and a good picture of reality to a certain extent. Iguess this would put the standardmodel on the same level like f.e. the theory o...
