Re: 2011 Events Discussion

Does anybody know what ATS means (they are doing "ATS MD" right now)?

Kind regards

Re: 2011 Events Discussion

Does anybody know what the "unsqueeze"-tests are good for?

Currently, b* is about 90m in CMS... (but with no beam in the machine)

Re: Current Events Discussion

What is this data used for (measuring some beam parameters)?

Re: Current Events Discussion

In last year's run they stopped at beta* = 3,5m. In 2009 (with lower intensity and energy) they squeezed to 2m. Beams (with even more bunches as last year) squeezed to beta* = 1,5m should give us a considerabely higher luminosity. On Friday on 23:33 they wrote that they scrape the beam with the prim...

Re: Translating lhc-facts.ch

German is my mother tongue, but my english is not as good as it should be. Nevertheless I would like to help to translate the page as it probably improves my skills... A kind of list that says which part of the site gets translated by whom would be helpful for anyone planning to attach to the projec...

Re: Current Events Discussion

Hi,

as they are planning to test "bunch train operation (1 train of 4 bunches, each separated by 150 ns)", i think they are just going to put the bunches in buckets separated by 150ns (i.e. moving the bunches closer together).

Please correct me, if I should be wrong!

Best regards

Re: Current Events Discussion

They are currently hunting the Hump by switching off the "GSM" in the tunnel.
I wonder if this is the same GSM that we use for wireless communication?

Re: Target beam separation / reduced luminosity in ALICE

Hi, I recently mailed a friend at CERN about this question. He said that ALICE is mostly interested in the "original" pp-collisions, i.e. how many secondary particles are produced by a single event. If you take two nominal colliding bunches, you will typically see 1.5 collisions per bunchcrossing. S...

Target beam separation / reduced luminosity in ALICE

Hi, does anybody know the reason for why the separation bump in IP2 is not collapsed completely (the CONFIG-Vistar shows a target separation of about -0.133 mm (if I remember correctly))? This (of course) reduces the delivered luminosity to ALICE drastically. I read that is was planned to reduce the...

hi everybody!

Hi, I just opened an account in this wunderful forum. I've to apologize for my bad english, but nevertheless I hope that we'll have many interesting discussions. As long as I can remember, i was interested in science and electronics. A friend of mine is working at CERN for almost 15 years, and so I ...
