Re: Other ways our world might come to an end
While I agree with some of what you've said, let me adress some of your points: What is the fact is, earth is warming up. Yes, it is. Totally. The amount by which it warmed up, however, is nothing compared to what is normal yearly temperature range. Unfortunately many species are rather sensitive to...

Re: Other ways our world might come to an end
Unfortunately I cannot agree with you. In one point we probably do agree, mainstream media are totally worthless for getting information on this subject, they are 99.99% propaganda from both sides. I did have the chance to listen to several presentations by scientists in the field, and in their opin...

Re: Other ways our world might come to an end
Now, mankind making the planet uninhabitable for ... mankind, that's a whole different kettle of fish. Already possible today, maybe already irreversibly underway. The only irreversible thing I can see going on is time. Do you have anything more lethal on mind? Do you really want to open the can of...

Re: Other ways our world might come to an end
thanks mailo  what's your thoughts on the subject? On the possibility of destruction of the whole planet? To quote one of my favorite sayings "Slim to none, and Slim has just left town." ;) Seriously, the chances of a natural event obliterating a planet need to come up against the fact tha...

Re: Don’t talk to aliens, warns Stephen Hawking
See how you have the habit to over relativise or to mock with something serious, 'pneumonia' becomes 'getting a cold', btw if I may take on the title of mister doom did you know that, due to pneumonia, over two million children under five die each year worldwide. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumo...

Re: Don’t talk to aliens, warns Stephen Hawking
What I would like to bring up is that I find this Hawking character a strange cat, and he is also one of the reasons that I find the LHC a bit dodgy. You know he got that special voice synthesizer because he contracted pneumonia during a visit to cern in 1985. Personally, I believe that in stress s...

Nonexistant. No lattice of atoms, thus no phonons. No cooling and no cloud of nano-Kelvin temperature gas of atoms, thus no BEC.Chelle wrote:What about phonon-wind.

Re: Don’t talk to aliens, warns Stephen Hawking
LHC collides bunches at a frequency of 40 MHz. Sure, but when speed/energy is increased, the volume also increases. Which volume? If you mean with more energy more particles are created, true, but that still doesn't change anything. When the next collision happens, all effects of the previous one a...

Re: Don’t talk to aliens, warns Stephen Hawking
... there is no difference between measuring longer with a lower frequency of collisions or shorter with a higher. Thus, 1s of LHC is rather nicely simulated by 100 years of atmospheric collisions. Especially since your "structured matter" also does not ... matter Measuring might be the same, but t...

Re: Don’t talk to aliens, warns Stephen Hawking
My mental well being is just fine (well, concerning LHC safety, my wife would probably disagree with the general statement ;) ), thanks so much. I don't need to ignore the points you bring up, I am quite able to see the glaring logical faults you keep putting into them. I don't have any connection t...

And once again MagneticTrap ignores a request to substantiate his wild claims by offering his calculations or at least numbers. Why am I not surprised?

It was also said by me, should I now feel insulted?
Your analogies ARE worthless, and you DO make up numbers to fit your current hypotheses.

Re: Several biggest errors of particle physicists.
So first protons decay into neutrons, and then back into protons again? Sounds a bit as if it violates energy conservation.

Re: Mental illness
I did check it, and nowhere does it say this leads to phonons which create a BEC. All it does is try to explain why particles have a mass. That only comes from your jumping to conclusions based on english words rather than the physics described by those words.
