Re: Neutrinos go faster then light !

I find it very sad the way some scientists and the press especially are jumping to the conclusion that neutrinos are travelling faster than the speed of light. It's as if... they want it to be true. No, sorry, mother nature doesn't work like that and the speed of light remaining a speed limit will ...

Re: Antimatter captured for a fifth of a second?

I read the article and it does raise an interesting issue of why so much matter and so little antimatter in our local environment. It seems the simplest explanation is that matter and antimatter were created in equal amounts in the early universe and either 1) it mixed uniformly and annihilated each...

Re: Current Events Discussion

Thanks for the quick response. When the heavy ion experiments are begun in Nov., lead ions I believe, I assume the luminosity measurements will go way down since I would think it would be more difficult to get a high density of lead ions compared to protons. Plus much more energy must be needed to a...

Re: Current Events Discussion

Why is the luminosity of Alice essentially zero, while the other detectors are above 16?

Why no luminosity in Alice

While the other detectors currently seem to have luminosities of 16 or more, Alice has none. Is it due to the specific beam type and profile?

Beam 2 reduced stability?

From the last several runs it appears that the luminosity of beam 2 decayed at a faster rate than that for beam 1. This seems the case for several days or weeks now. Does anyone know why beam 2 would appear to lose luminosity faster than beam 1?

Re: Current Events Discussion

Well I don't think they made 24hrs, but it looks like they got past 18hrs which is certainly a record. The collisions from ATLAS look great.

Whoops, beams gone. Hope there were some interesting collisions.

Re: ** Current Events and discussion **

It certainly seems to know how to quench, simply needs to be taught when to quench. Pity it will hold up getting to 3.5TEV for a while.
