Re: CERN opens its doors September 28th - 29th
Those of you with an inclination for social media might want to keep an eye on Twitter on Friday for the second CERN tweetup. The hashtag for the day is #CERNTweetup, although at the moment the results for that search are mostly the participants being excited to be going :) Search for #CERNTweetup o...

You can ask, but you won't get an answer. It's up to the experts to identify themselves, if they wish to do so

Re: Protons and Special Relativity
It certainly does apply to protons - the operation of the LHC depends on this fact. When talking about objects travelling at relativistic velocities, it's pretty common to consider the rest mass - m0 - and the relativistic mass, m. It's the latter that gets bigger in the lab frame. As far as physica...

Re: Papers, Prizes and the CDS.
Interesting (but not altogether surprising) to see the disparity between the experiments.

...which in turn we think is what happened at .0000000000001 seconds after the big bang. When people make comparisons to the big bang, they normally mean in terms of the amount of energy involved - I'm not aware of anyone trying to claim that the big bang was started by colliding particles together...

Re: Anti-Gravity.
I probably worded that last post a little harshly, but I'm glad I got the point across. The experiment is still going to be one I look forward to hearing about - the main reason I'm being picky about the phrase "anti-gravity" is because it's very easy to interpret it, as I think you did previously, ...

Re: Anti-Gravity.
"The primary scientific goal of the AEgIS experiment is the direct measurement of the Earth’s gravitational acceleration g on antihydrogen."
As I've been trying to explain throughout this thread - the experiment is about the effect of gravity on antimatter - not "Anti-gravity"

Re: Anti-Gravity.
If anti-matter behaves differently in gravity then it would fall upwards through a field that would cause normal matter to fall downwards. This isn't what's expected to happen of course. It's not about "anti-gravity", it's about the behaviour of anti-matter under the influence of gravity. Very diffi...
